Past Progressive
The varients presented in the note below are arranged according to their frequency of occurrence in the survey data-from most frequent to least frequent.

The past progressive form of the verb in the sentence refers to an action in the past time which was ongoing/incomplete/in progression. For example, in the standard Marathi sentence rohən amba khat hota ‘Rohan mango eating was (=Rohan was eating a mango)’, the verbal complex khat hota refers to the event of Rohan eating a mango which was ongoing at a time prior to the time of the speaker uttering the sentence. Events in the past progressive are often used to set the scene for another event in the past time, as in radha ɡhərat ali tewha rohən amba khat hota ‘Rohan was eating a mango when Radha came home.’

1.0 Dialectal variation in marking the {Past Progressive}
Three variant structures were observed in the various regional dialects of Marathi for indicating the past progressive aspect: (1) [V-t+hot-AGR]; (2) [V-CP+RAH(-AGR)+AUX-AGR]; (3) [V-(NON.FIN)+LAG+AUX-AGR].

The geographical distribution and examples of the variant structures forms are given below.

1.1 Variant 1: [V-t+hot-AGR]

The variant [V-t+hot-AGR] of the past progressive aspect was noted in all the sampled districts in the state of Maharashtra.

1.1.1 Example (District Gadchiroli, Taluka Korchi, Village Mohagon, M39, SC, 12th)

1.2 Variant 2: [V-CP+RAH(-AGR)+AUX-AGR]

The variant [V-CP+RAH(-AGR)+AUX-AGR] of the past progressive aspect was recorded in eight of the 34 districts sampled in the state of Maharashtra. It is more frequently observed in Nandurbar, Dhule, Nashik and Jalgaon districts and less frequently noted in Buldhana, Amravati, Nagpur and Chandrapur districts. The geographical spread of this variant and examples are given below:
